With each new sign-up to their service, our client had the opportunity to access large amounts of dynamic, industry-specific data.
The value of this asset had not been fully realised at the outset of the business model, and so our client approached us looking to utilise the data without a rebuild of their application so that they could begin to pivot their business without major reinvestment or making their current platform obsolete.
Market analysis and the end-user matching service could be driven by real-time statistics and data for the first time.
We took a conservative approach to the problem, focusing on inserting automated steps into current processes to enable and automate data gathering, thus serving our client's new business model, whilst retaining the original relevance and functionality of the end-user experience.
To do so, we focused on three key requirements:
1. Ensuring that the data-gather was integrated invisibly into the current signup process.
2. Providing real-time data to our client for forensics and data analysis.
3. Automating a number of key analytics within the application.
Our first decision was to design a background process to automatically associate new users on the platform with their CRM data wherever the user's company had completed the requisite legal contracts. The process required no additional signup steps for the user whilst simultaneously ensuring that data gathering could begin immediately.
We then looked at how we could provide the gathered data to our client without rebuilding the application or disrupting the original business model. We settled on a data-feed to the client's own relational database management system (in this case MySQL) via an overnight job. This meant that the application could remain intact and functioning to serve its current user base whilst also providing access to large amounts of dynamic data for the client to manipulate outside of the application.
The resulting enhancements allow the application to perform a number of computations on the gathered data for use in the platform's matching process and also provide a set of statistics for users to compare when selecting their services. This element was technically simple but complex in design and required the use of our BA service.
The business is now set up to pivot its focus towards results-based rankings, in addition to automated matching services. This will enable our client to become the first in the UK to offer data-led agency and agent statistics for compairson by either the general public or within the indusrty.
